Due to a number of requests from customers, both local and overseas, we have decided to offer the services of a number of reputable sculptors and painters who undertake commission work. To this end, we are adding sculptors and painters from various countries and not just the UK to facilitate the service that we offer to you, our customers.
You will need to contact the sculptor/painter directly and communicate with them about all aspects of the commission. We do not handle any commissions ourselves and neither do we receive any commission from the sculptors or painters. Hence, we do not take any responsibility for any commissions given to the contacts provided on this page.
The prices for these commissions vary, depending on your requirements and also who is being commissioned. Each has their own prices, generally reflecting their expertise and skill. The sculptor/painter would give you individual quotations for each work commissioned. Again, prices will vary depending on the figure selected (foot figures, mounted figures, combination of foot and mounted figures) and the level of detail required. Factors you will need to consider when commissioning a figure, whether for sculpting or painting, include:
- the level of historical accuracy required;
- whether conversions or scratch-built figures are required;
- level of finish required (eg display, competition, collector);
- whether to include a Base and plaque with work-title and signatures;
- Insurance, postage and delivery.
Some points of recommendation:
try to commission only one figure at a time: there are many reasons for this, including artist's time frames and unforeseen curcumstances;
discuss the means of delivery with the sculptor/painter. You might want to consider a personal arrangement for pick-up rather than entrust postal or courier services but again, these are matters to be discussed prior to commissioning the work. Remember that most sculptors and painters attend international model fairs and exhibitions so collection could be easily arranged with some forethought. This would possibly reduce postal and insurance costs;
discuss deposits, down-payments and method of payments before any work starts to avoid embarrassing misunderstandings later on in the process.
