How the miniature “Italian Mercenary, XV century” came about
The subject represents a typical Italian mercenary of the second half of the XVth century returning from a “skirmish” and from the subsequent forays to which the territories were subjected following the passing of the occupying militants.
He is wearing clothes in heavy velvet of the popular type and the only available protection are the “infantry breast plate” and an “Italian-style helmet” hanging from the belt. Of particular importance are the pole weapons, maybe even them prizes of war, typical of the period under consideration. In fact we can see a partizan with its large dimensions that at times were over a metre in length and a chauve-souris. The first was often used to stop the cavalry while the second was specifically to stop the long pikes and to hold back the men.
