The Spanish participation in the American Revolutionary War was instrumental to the Continental victory in the conflict, even if it is a bit less familiar for the general public.

When the war started in the thirteen colonies, Spain declared war on Britain and became, along with France, an ally of the American colonies. Some of the operations of the war were conducted in Europe, but the main part of the participation was conducted by the Spanish contingent led by Bernardo de Galvez, governor of Spanish Louisiana.

The Spanish army led a successful campaign on the south-western flank of the British, aimed at the forts in the Mississippi that managed to capture important settlements, like Baton Rouge and Mobile. In 1791, the Spanish laid siege and captured Pensacola, which gave them control of West Florida and prevented any potential British offensive towards the west.

Our figure portrays a grenadier from the Zamora regiment, one of the units that participated in the conquest of Pensacola, in marching order through the swampy terrain of Florida. It can be painted in a different color scheme to represent different regiments of the Spanish Army of the period.
