“No matter if you embark on a trip, start a voyage or initiate a journey, you have to be sure that you allow the experience to change your inner self”. The old man always said that to the visitors that, for one reason or another, showed up from time to time at the village. Normally they were tourists that looked upon him with a mix of curiosity and mockery, but who could blame them? After all, he was some sort of eccentric personality on that place, dressed in rags and living on berries and the goodwill of the villagers.

That remark about travelling was a bit of an awkward thing to say, as he had not left the village since he arrived to it wounded and battered after the last battle against the forces of the evil Empire of the North. Those days of war and death were thankfully long gone, but some spots of darkness still remained hidden through the land, like unholy remnants of the perverse powers that once came down from the mountains, tainting and destroying everything at its pace.

For him it was easier to remain unnoticed, keeping his true self and the majesty of his powers hidden under the rags and the crazy remarks while devoting every single bit of strength that remained in him to be an invisible warden against the powers of darkness. He had the power to fight those powers travelling to the alternate dimensions where they hid, without even leaving the modest hut that he inhabited in the edge of the village.

In the past centuries, he had been known by many names. The Wise One. The Herald of the Light. The Warden of the Seven Keys and the Seven Books of Knowledge of Ammon Tar. All those names sounded really distant and different from the usual “hey, you fool” that was the commonest form that people used to address him lately.

But that didn’t bother him at all. He was something more important and different than all that. He was the Arcane Traveller.
