Formed as an “experimental corps” in 1800, the 95th were set apart from regular infantry by their dark green uniforms and use of the Baker rifle. As opposed to the smooth-bore Brown Bess muskets in general use by British infantry, the Baker’s rifled bore would spin the projectile as it was fired, greatly enhancing accuracy.
