The “Golden Age” of piracy happened with periods of higher or lesser intensity during the XVI, XVII and the early XVIII centuries, and was largely related to the new trade routes that started with the commerce in the recently founded European colonies in America.
These pirates were mostly ruthless and rough adventurers that conducted their unlawful activities in the waters and trade lanes surrounding the New World colonies. Assaults on merchant ships, raids at settlements, all was fair in order to get some profit. Sometimes, they even acted under diverse national flags, hired as corsairs to conduct an irregular war between the rival powers.
These adventurers had even bases of their own in the Caribbean Sea, like Tortuga Island, Port Royal in Jamaica or La Hispaniola, which despite being the first European settlement in America, founded by Christopher Columbus himself, entered in a state of decay when other more suitable colonies were established.
With this bust we have tried to portray one of these adventurer men. This individual is a particularly seasoned and veteran pirate that has seen a lot of world. He doesn’t need in to unsheathe his saber to get what he wants in any given situation; sometimes he send his small sidekick to do the dirty jobs.
